Celebrating One Year of Great Success!
In August 2012, Peterson created a Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC). The purpose of this interactive mix of patients, family members, and staff was to create a collaborative forum in which patients and families would have a voice in the decisions that affect the care they, and other patients, receive at our hospital.
Meeting the 4th Tuesday of every month, nearly a dozen members celebrated a year working together in which many activities and accomplishments were directly credited to the council's significant teamwork. Examples of ideas that led to initiatives include suggesting more handicapped parking (4 new spaces have been added); recommending pet therapy in the Acute Rehabiliation Unit (handsome labrador, Spencer has been impacting patients in therapy and recovery since Spring); to making major improvements in the Patient Information Guide given to every patient in the hospital. These are just a few of the dozens of ways the committee has worked with staff to improve relationships and processes and hospital programs.
