Occupational Therapy

Peterson Regional Medical Center's Outpatient Occupational Therapy department strives to work one on one with each person toward their personal goals.  The occupational therapists are specially trained for neurological, orthopedic, and pediatric populations using therapy techniques based on research proven methods.  Treatments are customized specifically for each person's challenges.  Family members or caregivers are also involved in the sessions as needed.  Professional guidance in the recovery process with the occupational therapists help the persons as a whole adjust and improve with the changes encountered in returning to life's daily activities including self-care, work, leisure and community involvement. Occupational Therapists guide persons through fine motor skills (ie, writing, pinching and grasping) and gross motor skills (caring, bathroom transfers, dressing.  Helping to coordinate activities with improved safety, planning and energy.

Recovering from a prolonged illness or injury may have interfered with your ability to drive. This 'Return to Driving' assessment measures and interprets the physical ability, problem solving skills, visual and preceptial abilities that are necessary to safely return to driving. This assessment allows the therapist to refer the driver on to a Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist or recommend additional therapy in any area that might be deficient.  For more information about this assessment please call 830-258-7043.
