Signs of Life

Hospice isn't about giving up on life - it's about choosing to live life to the fullest each and every day, making every moment count. Peterson Hospice believes the patients should have control over their care and their quality of life.

Only one-third of patients in the United States who are eligible for hospice care actually receive the service. Often times, the transition to hospice occurs very late in the progression of the disease, however, many patients could benefit from hospice services much earlier.

Here are several things to look for when determining whether hospice could be beneficial:

• Repeated hospitalizations
• Progressive, unintentional weight loss
• Refusal or inability to eat.
• Requiring assistance with activities of daily living.
• Frequent infections
• Inability to heal wounds
• Progressive decline in patient's overall status
• Aggressive treatment is no longer being offered, or is not desired by the patient and/or family.
